This page explains how to download and install TalkByText Mobile Edition on the Nokia 9300 Communicator.
The easiest way to install the program is by downloading it directly to the phone using the phone's own web browser. First of all start the web browser which is in the media folder on the desktop:
When the browser has started, tell it to go to the following page: http://ictrnid.org.uk/mt.html
Select the first link on the page :
The browser will now start to download the TalkByText Mobile Edition application to your phone. You are asked what you want to do with the file you have just clicked. Select the "Save and Open" command:
The "Save As" dialogue will then appear:
Confirm the proposed location by pressing "OK". You will now be asked to confirm that you want to install the program. Confirm this by selecting "Install":
You will see a warning saying that the application is not signed. Just click "Continue":
The TalkByText Mobile Edition application will now be downloaded to your phone and installed:
In the next step, you will be asked where to put the application shortcut. Select the desktop by chosing "Desk" from the list and pressing the "Select" button. Click "OK" when you are done:
The installation is now complete:
When you first start the application you will be asked permission for it to access the network. Select "Yes":
Next, the application needs to send a registration SMS message. It will again ask for permission to do that. If you want to be able to use TalkByText Mobile Edition, you will need to say "Yes". You will be billed for sending this SMS message, most users pay around 20p, but this can differ depending on your price plan:
When the message is sent, the main window will appear (see picture) with the message "Requesting new account". Do not exit the program now otherwise you will not be able to use TalkByText Mobile Edition.
After a while, when registration has been completed, the "Ready" screen will appear and TalkByText Mobile Edition is now ready to be used. You may be asked again to allow a connection to the network and, if so, you should say "Yes".
If TalkByText Mobile Edition keeps asking for permission to connect to the network, you can change the connection permissions. To do this, you will need to start the Application Manager, which you will find in the Control Panel of your Communicator under the Data Management folder:
After starting the Application Manager, select the TalkByText Mobile Edition entry (or "RNID Mobile") in the list and press the "Details" button:
On the "Network permissions" page, you should set the Messaging option to "Session"
Start TalkByText Mobile Edition and wait until you see the "Ready" screen. You can now press "Enter" to enter a number. Then click the "Commands" button, then select "Call".
